Safadi, Syrian counterpart meet in Cairo

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday met with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in Cairo ahead of the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee on Syria meeting.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed ways to enhance coordination and cooperation, with a particular focus on priority issues of mutual concern, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Safadi and Mekdad also reviewed the merits of a step-by-step approach aimed at resolving the crisis in Syria through a comprehensive political solution, which should address the humanitarian, security and political impacts of the issue.
The discussion also acknowledged the progress already achieved through practical steps that directly resulted from the Amman meeting on the crisis in Syria held in May.
Reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, both ministers expressed their commitment to continued consultation and strategic coordination to strengthen the ties between their respective nations, and serve the interests of their peoples.
